Accessibility Essentials Training
Welcome!
This course is designed to help you remember the basics of accessible design. Accessible content means equal access to education and employment, the services Western provides, and above all the Western experience. We can do our part by factoring accessibility into each step of creating digital content—from planning to publishing.
This micro-course will cover some of the most important accessibility features your content needs, so it's accessible to your site visitors.

Who should take the course?
Anyone interested in learning more about digital accessibility is welcome to take the micro-course. This micro-course also works well as a refresher after taking the standard training or advanced training.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites to take this course. Familiarity with the basics of Microsoft applications, Adobe applications, or web content editing and HTML can still help.
Training Topics
The accessibility essentials training covers the following topics:
- Using meaningful heading structure.
- Writing clear link text.
- Adding alt text to images.
- Making tables accessible by adding row headers and a caption.
- Using plain language when writing content.
- Choosing high contrast color designs and combinations.

Standard Accessibility Training
The standard training course is required for all editors and developers working on Western websites. The training goes in-depth into making webpages, documents, and email accessible.

While an optional training currently, this course is highly recommended for web and web app developers. The advanced training covers accessibility topics around HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and using ARIA.
